Congratulations to Hamish Chan and Mary Black on their outstanding performances over the weekend at AFC #3 in Melbourne.

Men's Foil:

Hamish ranked 20th after the poules and fought his way through the elimination rounds to place 3rd in a field of 51 fencers.

Veteran Women's Epee:

Mary won her poule and worked her way through to the final where she narrowly lost 8-10 against Nadine Ferguson from South Australia.

Auckland fencers Daniel Garelja, Oliver Agnew, and Nicola Buisman competed at South Island Fencing Champs in Christchurch over the past weekend - and all three took out some great results.

Men's Foil:

Daniel has been training hard with his coach Anya Kamynina - building on his recent experience at Asian Senior Champs and the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Champs. This hard work helped him to win the South Island Foil Champs title for 2015. Oliver also placed in the Foil competition, coming in at 3rd= despite foil not being his main weapon.

Men's Epee:

Oliver has also been training hard, both at fencing with coach Kyle Macdonald and at the gym where he has been improving his core strength and agility. On top of his placing in foil Oliver also won U23 National Epee Champs and placed 2nd in the South Island Epee Champs.

Women's Foil:

Nicola Buisman has been working hard on her technique at the University of Auckland Fencing Club and New Zealand Academy of Fencing. She won the poule round and had a good run through to the semi finals in Women's Foil where she lost to Suzy Cheng from Dunedin, placing 3rd overall.

Congratulations to our fencers on their achievements!

Just a quick update about the Fencing events next week!

There have been some changes to weapons control times. Weapons control at Massey High on Wednesday night has been moved from 7pm till 8pm. We have also added another weapons control session on Monday night that Auckland fencers are expected to attend – it will be at 7.30pm in the New Zealand Academy of Fencing Clubrooms – click here for the details. Weapons control will still run each day from 8am at Massey High. Auckland fencers should also come along and help us set up on Wednesday night from 8pm or on Thursday morning from 8am.

The list of entries has been published online so you can double check your entries and who else is going. Remember that entries close on Sunday – and if you’re entering a school team you need to let me know by then too.

ALSO by popular demand we have created a unique t-shirt for National Secondary School and U20 Fencing Championships. Stock is limited and pre-ordering will give you the best chance to get one (and at a discount). Check out the design and order on our website

Throughout the event we will be posting updates to the Fencing New Zealand Facebook page – make sure you “like” the page to keep up to date.

We are looking forwards to having you in Auckland at the competition next week! This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
